Calgary YouTuber Charged Over Alleged Threats Against Prime Minister Mark Carney
A Calgary-based YouTuber has been charged in connection with alleged threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney, following an investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The RCMP’s Federal Policing Northwest Region Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), working with the Calgary Police Service, received information about the alleged threats on July 28, 2026. The investigation subsequently led to the arrest and charging of 31-year-old Jamie Dacosta. Dacosta faces a charge of uttering a threat to cause the death of the Prime Minister of Canada, contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. The charge relates to an alleged threat communicated through a YouTube account.
The accused was scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on September 15, 2026. The RCMP has not disclosed the specific wording of the alleged threat or provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the online post. The investigation highlights the responsibilities of law enforcement agencies in responding to threats against public officials and assessing potential national security concerns. The RCMP’s federal policing division is responsible for investigating national security-related offences and protecting designated Canadians, including the prime minister. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or credible threats through appropriate law enforcement channels. The RCMP said it would not provide further comments while the matter is before the courts. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the accused have not been proven in court. Dacosta is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in accordance with Canadian law.
