Five Generations of One Family Set Guinness World Record by Sharing the Same Birthday

A family from the United States has achieved a remarkable milestone after five consecutive generations were born on the same calendar day, earning recognition from Guinness World Records.
The Bell and Harlow family, from the Omaha area, shares a birthday tradition that spans 118 years. The family’s newest member, Arthur Bell, was born on September 14, 2025, joining four relatives from previous generations who were also born on September 14. The five family members are Arthur Bell, his mother Emma Bell, his grandfather Fred Harlow, his great-grandmother Addie Harlow and his great-great-grandfather Wilber Harlow. Their birth years are 2025, 1997, 1972, 1949 and 1907, respectively. The coincidence has brought considerable excitement to the family, which had already celebrated shared birthdays across several generations. Emma Bell said she had always considered the family’s birthday connection special, but the possibility of setting a world record became more apparent when she learned her second child’s due date was September 14. Emma and her husband, Wyatt, reportedly found it difficult to believe that their baby would actually arrive on the same date as four previous generations. Arthur’s birth on September 14 confirmed the extraordinary family coincidence. The shared birthday follows another unusual pattern: the generations alternate between boys and girls, beginning with Wilber and continuing through Addie, Fred, Emma and Arthur.
For the family, the shared birthday has long been an opportunity to celebrate together. Emma described how she, her father and her grandmother traditionally celebrated their birthdays as one family occasion rather than separate individual events.
The family’s record-breaking achievement was officially recognized by Guinness World Records. The organization identifies five people across the five generations as holding the record for the most generations born on the same day. The family’s story has attracted attention because of the rarity of the coincidence and the way it connects relatives born more than a century apart. It also highlights the personal traditions that can develop around birthdays and family milestones. The family continues to celebrate September 14 as a special occasion, with Arthur’s arrival adding a new generation to the shared birthday tradition.
