Toronto Ranked North America’s Third-Largest Tech Talent Hub
Toronto has secured its position as the third-largest tech talent market in North America, according to CBRE’s 2026 Scoring Tech Talent report. The city ranks behind only the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle, reaffirming its reputation as one of the continent’s leading destinations for technology, innovation, and digital investment.
The report highlights Toronto’s impressive growth in technology employment over the past several years. Between 2022 and 2025, the city added approximately 75,000 technology jobs, representing one of the strongest job growth rates among major North American tech markets. The expansion has been driven by increasing investment in artificial intelligence (AI), software development, financial technology (fintech), cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital services.
Toronto continues to attract both multinational technology companies and fast-growing startups because of its highly educated workforce and strong network of universities and research institutions. Schools such as the University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, and nearby University of Waterloo continue to produce thousands of skilled graduates each year, helping meet the industry’s growing demand for talent.
The report also notes that Toronto has become a global leader in artificial intelligence research and commercialization. Major technology firms have expanded their operations in the city, while venture capital investment continues to support innovation across AI, healthcare technology, clean technology, robotics, and financial services.
Canada’s overall technology sector also showed strong momentum, with national tech employment growing by 7.6% in 2025. Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver together account for nearly 60% of Canada’s AI-specialty workforce, highlighting the country’s increasing importance in the global technology economy.
Despite its strong performance, the report points to ongoing challenges, including rising housing costs, competition for skilled workers, and the need for continued investment in infrastructure and affordable office space. Employers also face increasing competition to recruit and retain experienced professionals as demand for specialized technology skills continues to rise.
Business leaders say Toronto’s diverse workforce, stable economy, supportive immigration policies, and collaborative innovation ecosystem remain key advantages that continue to attract international companies. These strengths are expected to support further job creation and investment in the years ahead.
The latest rankings reinforce Toronto’s position as one of North America’s most influential technology centres. Industry experts believe the city’s continued investment in innovation, education, and research will help maintain its competitiveness while strengthening Canada’s role as a global leader in technology and artificial intelligence.
