Alasko Frozen Raspberries Recalled in Seven Provinces Over Norovirus Risk
Canadians in seven provinces are being warned not to consume certain Alasko frozen whole raspberriesfollowing a Class 1 food recall over possible norovirus contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall on September 15, 2026, following findings during an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The agency says illnesses have been reported in association with consumption of the recalled products. The affected products were distributed in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
The recall applies to Alasko Whole Raspberries, 1 kg, with UPC 6 95058 00205 4, lot number SY25314, purchase order number 138602, and best-before date 2027-NO-10. It also applies to Alasko IQF Whole Raspberries, 5 kg (5 × 1 kg), with UPC 1 069505 800205 1, lot number SY25314, purchase order number 138602, and best-before date 2027-NO-10. The CFIA is advising consumers not to eat, serve, sell, use or distribute the affected products. Anyone who has a recalled package should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Norovirus is highly contagious and can cause gastroenteritis. Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and stomach cramps. Headache, chills, muscle aches, fatigue and a low-grade fever can also occur. Symptoms typically develop within 24 to 48 hours after exposure, although they can appear sooner. Food contaminated with norovirus may look, smell and taste normal, meaning consumers cannot determine whether the product is safe simply by examining the berries. The CFIA said its investigation is continuing and that additional recalls could be issued if more affected products are identified. The agency is also verifying that the recalled raspberries are being removed from the marketplace. Consumers who believe they became sick after consuming the recalled product should contact a healthcare provider. People should also carefully check their freezers to determine whether they have any packages matching the recalled product details.
The recall has been classified as Class 1, the highest level of food recall in Canada, reflecting the potential for serious health consequences from consuming the affected food. Canadians in the affected provinces are urged to check their frozen food supplies carefully and avoid consuming any Alasko raspberries matching the recalled lot and date information. The CFIA investigation remains ongoing, and consumers should watch for further official food safety updates.
