The Edmonton Heritage Festival at William Hawrelak Park closed early at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday after Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a thunderstorm alert for the Edmonton area.
Festival organizers announced the early closure as a precaution to protect the safety of visitors, volunteers, performers, vendors, and staff as severe weather approached. Attendees were asked to leave the park in an orderly manner, and festival operations were suspended for the remainder of the day.
The Heritage Festival, one of Edmonton’s largest annual cultural celebrations, features dozens of cultural pavilions showcasing international food, music, dance, and traditions. Thousands of visitors attend the event each year during the Heritage Day long weekend.
Organizers apologized for the inconvenience and thanked attendees for their cooperation, emphasizing that public safety remains their top priority.
